TAHF Research Programme
Most prominent in the area of research is the use of herbs in the management of Sickle Cell conditions. Currently, TAHF is collaborating with the Department of Haematology in the Lagos State College of Medicine (LASUCOM) and the Faculty Pharmacy of University of Lagos for the care of several Sickle Cell sufferers. They number about 350 individuals (children and adults) who are regularly checked and routine drugs supplied. Prof. (Mrs.) Sagoe and her team oversee the programme alongside the clinical appliance of herbal products used as support therapy.
Furthermore, TAHF is also in support of education in the area of research and has sponsored a one-day workshop held in November, 2002 in Abuja with the theme: “Utilizing Nature’s Support for the Wellbeing of Persons with Sickle Cell Conditions to Ensure Quality Life”
The workshop, which was declared open by the Hon. Minister of State for Health, was attended by government functionaries, medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses, school children and members of the general public. Paper presentations on management of Sickle Cell conditions were made by late Professor A. B. Okoro, consultant paediatrician at the UNTH, Enugu and by Zee Pharmaceuticals on the use of herbal preparations.
